Mermay 2022 Day 24: #SocialButterfly + Proving A Point, Part One

Salut mon peepity peeps!

ToDAY we have yet another entry of Merjago! It’s been a while, but I am glad to once again welcome Vania to the stand!

Sure, it’s a bit of a stretch, but I was itchin’ to draw this cutie.

I very much like this one!

I was also able to use a new way of shading, using the Procreate brush “Soft Blend”! That also brings us to the second part of this post; Proving A Point.

This was inspired by a conversation with The Hutt about the latest bombshell which Crystalized dropped! Namely; if Ninjago wasn’t animated as LEGOs, it would a) probably be considered a more mature show, and b) be significantly more popular. No offense, Ninjago! You’re wonderful just the way you are.😚

But anyway, I have started an art series, taking moments from the show and drawing them in a significantly more realistic fashion, and framing them like a Marvel movie!

The first is my first attempt at a whole new style of shading, and it also showed that I needed a much larger canvas, so it’s not quite as impressive as the second one, which I’ll probably show tomorrow or somethin’.

This is a SPOILER FOR CRYSTALIZED. Carry forward at your own risk, if you haven’t seen the released episodes!

Hehe, I love Jaya.

I also LOVE how this turned out!!!! This new shading really is eye-opening. I also used Wet Sponge for some shading, and that is a really good blender.

Anyway, I need to be working, so I’ll just give my closing remarks now.

I hope you’re all enjoying your week, and consider taking some time to watch Sons of Garmadon and Hunted!!!!! They’re on Netflix, and they’re amazing, probably even from a non-Ninjago-fan perspective.

Happy Tuesday!

Love, Bea.🧜‍♀️💜

  1. Okay but like I am REALLY SORRY that I am so behind on interacting w your posts!! I have been reading and absolutely LOVING all of these, I guess I’ve been busy or smth idk.
Anyway, I’m here now and I have some WORDS!

First of all, holy crap that drawing of Vania is actually amazing. I love the veins the webbing of her hands! That’s such a fun detail! The blending and her HAIR and her sweet face? I love her sooo much 🙈 It’s so good

Secondly, this project of yours looks AWESOME!! And your new blending technique is awesome! It’s actually really funny because I myself have recently been working on using sharp shadows because I’m not real confident with them.

    Lovely art my friend!

    • It’s fine! I was slightly worried, and of course I missed your lovely insight, but yes, tis fine.👍🏼

Haha, thank you!!! I was using a lower opacity, and it seemed like a good use of that handy dandy fact to do veins! Vania is wonderful. I really need to draw her more!

Thank you AGAIN! It’s incredibly fun. Using a photo as reference for shading is really helpful; I would definitely recommend it.
